What is a cross-reactive allergy?
In a cross-reactive allergy, the immune system reacts to similar proteins in different triggers. For example, some people with a birch pollen allergy also react to apples, hazelnuts, celery or carrots.
No blanket list of foods to avoid
Symptoms may include itching or swelling in the mouth; more severe reactions can also occur. A possible cross-reaction does not mean that you need to avoid all the foods listed. What matters is your actual symptoms and a targeted medical assessment.
In the event of a severe reaction
If you experience difficulty breathing, marked swelling of the airways or circulatory problems after eating, call 112 immediately.
